Research by Upendra Kachru
(Excerpts and Select Research)
Upendra Kachru’s concept of “Envelope Conditioning” refers to an innovative approach to heating and cooling buildings by managing the thermal properties of the building envelope—the walls, roof, and floors—rather than relying solely on traditional HVAC systems. This method was detailed in his 1994 paper titled “A Novel Method of Cooling & Heating of Buildings – Envelope Conditioning”, presented at the “Excellence in Housing” conference in Dallas, Texas. Source?
Later Publication: Kachru often included the core concepts in later publications. For example:
• Book Chapter: Kachru, U. (1999). Envelope conditioning. In Mechanical Engineers’ Handbook: Energy and Power (Vol. 4, pp. 504–511). Wiley.
→ This chapter summarizes the concept and cites the 1994 conference paper as the origin.
